FAQs about Negligence Claims
Personal Injury law basics
A personal injury is a ‘physical injury, disease or illness, or a psychological injury or illness’.
Some cases of personal injuries include:
- an injury caused at work
- a psychological illness suffered as a result of abuse as a child
- an injury caused on the road
- an injury caused as a result of defective goods or services
- errors in hospital treatment
A person who has suffered a personal injury may want to make a complaint to the person or organisation he believes was responsible for the injuries or make a claim for compensation to cover losses he has suffered as a result of the injury.
If the person is injured in a road accident, he should contact the police and report it to the insurance company. Work accidents are normally recorded in an accident book.
If you want to make a claim in negligence, it is required by law to issue proceedings within three years of suffering an injury. Sometimes the court may extend a time limit, depending on the facts of the case.
